Auckland’s Must-Try Hot Cross Buns

With Easter just around the corner, Hot Cross Buns are flying back onto shelves and we’re racing to try them all. We all know and love the standard options, but this year we’re taking a look into some of the unique and wonderful varieties that are making waves across the city!

Daily Bread

Daily Bread are well known for their Hot Cross Buns. Launching across the city a few years back and in hot demand, they’ve since grown their collection. They boast a delicious, spiced apple bun which has proved a hit with the masses. More recently, however, their sour cherry and chocolate bun has taken things up a notch with a rich and flavoursome take on the classic that will leave you smacking your lips.

The Pantry

A twist on the standard, the Hot Cross Buns at The Pantry are a deliciously delightful treat. Soft and fluffy with a generous coating of powdered sugar, they are almost overflowing with a sweet vanilla custard cream. Delicious from start to finish, you’ll struggle to stop after eating just one. A perfect pairing alongside a classic hot cross bun and a hot drink, to make this snack into a full meal!

Ima Cuisine

Selling over 500 Hot Cross Buns a day back in 2018, Ima Cuisine had a huge following crowning them the ‘best hot cross buns in the world’! This well-deserved title stands the test of time, with their hot cross buns still holding their own. Spiced, fluffy and melt in the mouth, the light sugar glaze makes them sweet and shiny, and the warm custard cross along the top of the bun is simply divine!

Pastrami & Rye

Having recently relocated to the bustling streets of Ponsonby, Pastrami & Rye have been serving up sandwiches and treats that have delighted their patrons for years! Their Hot Cross Buns are no exception. They offer a chocolate-dipped double stout Hot Cross Bun which has been made in collaboration with Hallertau and is moody, rich and simply exquisite. Level it up and ask them to load your HCB with piles of fried, house-smoked bacon and maple syrup – need we say more?

Deli di Bossi

What could be better than a classic Hot Cross Bun? How about one that’s been soaked in limoncello! The tart and delicious liqueur hailing from Italy is homemade at Deli di Bossi, after which the Hot Cross Buns are drenched, left to rest overnight, and then baked and glazed to perfection. Sticky, sweet and savoury, they’re a truly delicious treat you never knew you needed!
