Yes! Six60 will be attending to support the talent but won’t be performing. Tickets for their Grassroots Tour City Edition concert on 1 March 2025 are available here: Click to purchase tickets.

Yes, it’s a family-friendly, smoke-free, and alcohol-free event for all ages.

No, it’s free. However, audience capacity is limited to 950, so we recommend arriving early. 

Hobson Wharf is down by the Viaduct Harbour and is easily accessible by foot, public transport, or bike. Check the AT website for routes. Note there are no bike racks available. 

If the event reaches capacity, security will inform you. You can wait for early departures if you wish.

Yes, larger bags, including chilly bins, will be checked at entry. 

Yes, there is a small grandstand and some bench seating. This is first come first served. You are also welcome to bring your own fold out chair or picnic blanket 

Yes, you can bring a picnic, but no alcohol is allowed. Bags will be checked including chilly bins, and alcohol will not be permitted. 

For safety reasons, pets should be left at home. Service dogs are welcome. 

Yes, medical staff will be on-site. Alert a volunteer or staff member in case of a medical emergency. 

Yes, this is a family-friendly event. If you are bringing children, please make sure your contact details are on your child in case they get lost. 

Moana Music Open Mic is a smokefree event. This includes vaping.

Yes, most of Hobson Wharf is wheelchair accessible via flat paved surfaces.

There are no food or drink outlets on-site, but you can bring a small picnic or explore nearby restaurants and bars before and after the event. This is an alcohol-free event. 

Free water will be available. 

Report lost children or items to Moana Auckland staff, volunteers, or security on-site. Be sure to have your contact details on your child in case they get lost. 

There is no rain date, so come prepared for any weather.

Performances must be family-friendly.  

Whilst we support freedom of speech, Moana Auckland cannot be used as a platform for political statement. 

We welcome all genres and lineup configurations (solo, duo, or band).

Yes, but if selected, you’ll need to arrange your own travel to Auckland. Please note that this competition is open to New Zealand residents only. 

Unfortunately, no. Due to limited spots, not everyone will be selected. You’ll be notified by Wednesday, 29 January if your application is successful. 

No, performers are not paid for this open mic event. However, the winner will receive a cash prize and other exciting rewards. 

Yes! 

  • $1,000 cash from Go Media 

  • 4 tickets to the Six60: The Grassroot Tour City Edition Auckland concert on 1 March 2025 

  • Backstage access at the Six60 concert

You will be contacted by Wednesday, 29 January 2025 via phone or email. 

You must be available to be onsite at Hobson Wharf on 9 February from 3:00 pm to 7:30 pm. Please ensure you're free for the full duration of the event. 

Anyone of any age can apply to perform. 

However, performers under 18 must have a consenting parent or guardian and provide their contact details. If selected, minors must be accompanied by their parent or guardian for the duration of the Moana Music Open Mic event.

Yes, successful applicants must sign a Code of Conduct. Our festival has pre-agreed, a political performance guidelines to ensure the safety of all attendees and participants. 

As a parent or guardian to a performer under 18, you will be required to give your written consent for their involvement in Moana Music Open Mic Competition. This includes consent to them performing, featuring in Tātaki Auckland Unlimited marketing and communication activities, and recordings.  

Moana Music is a family friendly, smoke-free, alcohol-free, public event.  

Every effort is made to ensure participant safety however a parent or guardian must accompany the artist to the event and stay for the duration of the event.  

We will provide microphones and amps on stage. Performers must bring their own instruments and any additional gear. Please inform organisers in your Submission about what additional gear is needed and we will try to accommodate.  

Previous performance experience isn’t required, but we’ll be selecting performers who can showcase their ability to perform confidently. 

This is a public event. We expect up to 950 attendees, so encourage your friends and whānau to come early and support you! 

Including a recording helps us assess your performance ability and ensures a fair selection process. 

Home recordings from your phone, tablet, or laptop are acceptable. 

Providing social media links is optional, but can help support your application. 

Yes, your performance will be recorded, and you will be able to receive a copy via email after the event.
