The Festival

Moana Auckland, New Zealand’s Ocean Festival, is a first of its kind in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland. Presented by Tātaki Auckland Unlimited, the festival celebrates the region’s love affair of the ocean – from waka to super yachts – through events and activities both on and off the water. Experience our delicious kaimoana, watch thrilling sailing races, marvel at historic vessels and learn more about our ocean and our heritage against the backdrop of Auckland’s spectacular Hauraki Gulf.

The Waitematā & Hauraki Gulf

The Hauraki Gulf is New Zealand’s first marine park, covering 1.4 million hectares and stretching from the north of Auckland to the Coromandel and Aotea great Barrier Island. Containing more than fifty islands and encompassing Auckland’s Waitematā Harbour, the gulf is known for its sheltered waters. The Hauraki Gulf has been a major source of kaimoana, recreation and travel for generations. These waters contain a nationally significant ecosystem, and represent the importance of the moana to our region.
