Iconic Auckland Eats is your annual list of the top 100 dishes in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland, as nominated by the public.
Nominations are narrowed down by a team of moderators to reach a final list of 100 Iconic Auckland Eats that are well-loved, representative of local culture and people, a ‘timeless classic’ and/or a ‘signature dish’.
Iconic Auckland Eats has been developed by Tātaki Auckland Unlimited to support local food and beverage businesses and to build Auckland and New Zealand’s reputation as a must-visit food and beverage destination.
How the top 100 Iconic Eats are Chosen
Following nominations, a team of food moderators narrow down submissions to reach a final list of 100 Iconic Auckland Eats that is robust and representative of Auckland.
Moderators review submissions against Iconic Eats criteria, being:
- well-loved,
- representative of local culture and people,
- and, a ‘timeless classic’ or a ‘signature dish’.
The list not only celebrates food, but also the in-store experiences, people, history, heritage and unique culture of Auckland. Iconic Eats dishes can only be found and eaten in Auckland, and must be available to the public year-round, though some exceptional seasonal dishes considered.
