Karaka Bay, located in the eastern Auckland suburb of Glendowie, is a lovely sandy beach perfect for a relaxing picnic. You can easily access it from the Point to Point Walkway, and during low tide, you can stroll along the silt and rock foreshore all the way to the Glendowie Boating Club.
But what truly sets Karaka Bay apart is its rich historical significance. It holds a special place as one of the four locations in or around Auckland where the Treaty of Waitangi, New Zealand's founding document, was signed in the months following its initial signing in February 1840.
