Naked Samoans launched a new era of popular culture in Aotearoa with comedic taonga like bro’Town and the Sione’s Wedding movies. Over the past three decades the members of the iconic comedy troupe have voiced Disney characters, broken cinema box-office records, become international stars, documented contemporary Pacific life on stage and screen, and had impressive acronyms like ONZM and MNZM bestowed upon them.
Now, 27 years after the Naked Samoans’ first comedy fest appearance, best mates Oscar Kightley, David Fane, Mario Gaoa, Shimpal Lelisi, Robbie Magasiva and Iaheto Ah Hi find the temptation of their first love—theatre—too powerful to resist. Will their friendship survive the lure of live comedy? Probably.
The Last Temptation of the Naked Samoans serves up a fresh helping of the group’s comic chemistry, edgy social satire and daft physicality as they tuck into irreverent parts of New Zealand culture and look at the way Islanders fit into the mix. This is the Nakeds’ first live show since 2018. Could it also be their last supper?
