Auckland War Memorial Museum was one of New Zealand’s first museums. Housed in an iconic heritage building in Auckland Domain, in the suburb of Parnell, the Museum tells the story of New Zealand, its people, and its place in the Pacific. The museum is widely regarded as one of the best in the Southern Hemisphere.
It is a must-see attraction with world-class Māori and Pacific collections, significant natural history resources, and major social and military history collections. Auckland Museum also serves as a war memorial for the province of Auckland and houses one of New Zealand's top three heritage libraries. The museum hosts a wide range of exhibitions, installations, presentations, programmes, and events.
Take part in a guided tour to see everything the museum has to offer while also learning some insider information. We recommend the Gallery Highlights Tour, which is the perfect introduction to the museum and its wonderful collections. Available daily at 11am and 1pm ($20 per adult, $10 per child, and free under 5).
After your tour, enjoy some late lunch or drinks at Tuitui Bistro & Café and browse the new Hokohoko Museum Store. Complete your experience by staying to watch the sun set over the Auckland Domain.
Getting there Te huarahi ki reira
You can take public transportation, drive and park in the museum's parking lot, or even walk or cycle if you're in the central Auckland area. The museum is located in the beautiful Auckland Domain, and once you arrive, you can enter through the main entrance on the east side of the building.
