It’s a great way to learn about Australia’s only carnivorous marsupial and understand the threats they’re facing in the wild. Visit at 11am daily for their free ‘Strangely Beautiful Australia’ keeper talk, and you’ll get to learn more about the birds and reptiles that live alongside them.

3. SEA LIFE Kelly Tarlton’s ‘Undersea Explorer’ VR Experience
Since 1985, SEA LIFE Kelly Tarlton’s has been the place to discover marine life, but now you can dive even deeper with the new Undersea Explorer VR experience.
Virtually swim alongside majestic sea creatures like sharks and dolphins, and experience what it’s like to explore underwater ecosystems. This new attraction brings marine conservation to life; choose from five different ocean and sea creature-themed experiences and get a whole new perspective on ocean life and preservation from below the surface (without getting wet!).
4. Explore MOTAT’s 'Make Music' exhibition
MOTAT (Museum of Transport and Technology) offers a fascinating mix of history and innovation, and their latest addition is a music-themed exhibit called 'Make Music' that’s perfect for kids interested in sound and rhythm.
Caregivers, pack your ear plugs; this hands-on space is where making loud noise is encouraged! Find out why sound moves us and what makes it so special. Discover interactive installations that let young maestros experiment with different musical instruments, delve into the science of sound, and learn how music technology has evolved over the years.
5. Plan your escape with Thrillzone’s VR Escape Quest
If you’re a family who likes a few thrills and a bit of friendly family competition, try this high-energy activity at Thrillzone Escape Adventure Takapuna. You might have heard of escape rooms, but this virtual experience gives this challenge a whole new twist.

You don’t need to head out of town to find raging river rapids. In fact you’ll find this wild water just a stone’s throw from Auckland’s southern motorway.
Vector Wero Whitewater Park offers exhilarating adventures, including whitewater rafting and kayaking. It’s a great way for kids to learn new skills and gain confidence on the water. The more adventurous can tackle heart-thumping rapids and waterfalls (prepare to get wet), but it’s not all thrills and spills. There are beginner courses which are a little more sedate but just as exciting, as well as a man-made lake where you can paddle board, kayak or relax in the shallows.
8. Enjoy twilight and night rides at Rainbow’s End
Rainbow’s End is a classic Auckland attraction, but we encourage you to check it out in a whole new light: twilight! Throughout the year, Rainbow’s End offers Twilight Rides and Night Rides, where you can enjoy the thrill of your favourite rides as the sun goes down. From the roller coaster to bumper boats, iconic rides are transformed by a colourful light show. Imagine the added enchantment of the log flume at dusk or spinning in the night sky on the Stratosfear extreme!
Generally, Twilight Rides run for a week every school holidays, while Night Rides make more of a regular appearance throughout the year - check out their website for upcoming dates.
9. Discover nature at Butterfly Creek
As the name might suggest, Butterfly Creek is Australasia’s premier butterfly house. But don’t be fooled; there is much more to discover. Here, dragons and unicorns roam in a mythical land and you can travel back in time to when dinosaurs ruled the earth. There are crocodiles, reptiles and a living wetland to discover. Interact with friendly farm animals, take a walk through the Butterfly House, and if you dare, get up close with a tarantula. It’s a perfect blend of nature and adventure, allowing kids to connect with animals up close and learn about conservation efforts.
10. Putt your way through Treasure Island Adventure Golf
For a swashbuckling adventure the whole family will love, set sail for Treasure Island Adventure Golf.
