Whether you’re the type to rise early for farmers’ produce or you love rummaging for pre-loved treasures, Auckland’s markets are brimming with local flavour, creativity, and character.

Come hungry, bring a tote, and prepare to find something uniquely Auckland to taste or take home with you.

Matakana Village Farmers’ Market

Auckland locals will happily make a weekend pilgrimage to Matakana, and for good reason. This Saturday morning market is set on the edge of a river, with wooden stalls shaded by leafy trees and packed with local artisan goods – think fresh produce, organic chocolates, handmade chutneys, gourmet sausages, and award-winning cheeses.

There’s live music, great coffee, and nearby shops and galleries in the Matakana Village to wander through after your market haul. Make a weekend of it and stay nearby – or take a day trip from central Auckland (around 1 hour's drive).

Britomart Saturday Market

Staying in the city? Guests at The Hotel Britomart are just steps away from the lively Britomart Market, held every Saturday morning. It’s small but mighty, offering a compact but curated collection of local produce, baked goods, and flowers. The urban setting gives it a unique charm – enjoy a morning stroll, grab a coffee, and fill your basket with fresh, seasonal fare.

269 Parnell

Every Saturday from 8am to 1pm, 269 Parnell transforms into a vibrant marketplace inspired by Latin American and European waterfront markets. The focus is on authentic, locally sourced, and traditional foods served in a lively setting. Vendors offer tapas-sized dishes from their cultures, encouraging communal dining and conversation.

Clevedon Village Farmers’ Market

Nestled in the lush countryside of East Auckland, the Clevedon Farmers’ Market is a beloved weekend institution. You’ll find fresh fruit and veg, organic meat, eggs, local honey, and an excellent selection of ready-to-eat bites.

Set against a rural backdrop, it’s a relaxing way to start a Sunday and a favourite among foodies looking for high-quality, locally sourced ingredients. Get there early – it’s a popular spot and the pastries go fast.

Chow Luck Club

Held every Saturday from 10am to 3pm, the Chow Luck Club foodie market in St Johns celebrates Auckland's rich diversity of global cuisine. With food stalls offering freshly prepared dishes from various cultures, it's a vibrant spot for food enthusiasts who love to indulge in adventurous flavours.

Balmoral Street Food Market

Balmoral is known for its diverse food scene, and the markets offer a rotating line up of street food vendors highlighting different flavours and cultures. Vegan options are always well represented here – think jackfruit burgers, vegan sushi, and indulgent plant-based baking. These markets are a great option for a casual Friday night out.

Auckland Fish Market

The Auckland Fish Market in Wynyard Quarter is home to a cluster of eateries and fishmongers offering the freshest catch of the day. While not a traditional market, it’s still a must-visit for anyone who enjoys a good plate of oysters, fish and chips, or sashimi. Live music on Saturdays and Sundays between 1-4pm adds to the vibe.

Auckland Night Markets

The Auckland Night Markets pop up in various neighbourhoods across the city every week, but the Wynyard Quarter edition (Saturdays and Sundays) at Silo Park is a conveniently central option for visitors. Expect a mix of global street food, music, and plenty of locals out enjoying the evening. It’s fun, chaotic, and delicious. Come hungry – there’s everything from dumplings to churros to bao.

Franklin Market

South of the city, Pukekohe’s Saturday Market is a classic farming community market with all the favourites – seasonal produce, flowers, baked goods, preserves, and local crafts. It’s a relaxed and friendly spot that feels a world away from the city rush, but still within easy reach. It’s a great stop if you’re exploring the Franklin area; held every Saturday morning, rain or shine.

Takapuna Sunday Market

Across the bridge on Auckland’s North Shore, Takapuna’s Sunday Market within Waiwharariki Anzac Square is a bustling mix of fresh produce, hot food stalls, second-hand treasures, and crafts. There are plenty of bargains to be found – from vintage clothes and homewares to fresh herbs and flowers. The beach is just a short stroll away, so it’s a great way to spend a Sunday morning – especially if you follow it with a swim or a beachside brunch.

Avondale Sunday Market

A true Auckland institution, the Avondale Sunday Market is where cultures collide – and it’s all the more vibrant for it. Come for the food (Pacific Island doughnuts, fresh roti, tropical fruit), stay for the music and energy. There are second-hand clothes, homewares, and a big community feel. Go early to beat the crowds, and bring cash if you can, as not all stallholders will accept card payments.

Waiheke Ostend Market

Heading to Waiheke Island for a wine tasting or getaway? Time it right and stop by the Ostend Market on a Saturday morning. It’s got a friendly, laidback vibe, with local arts and crafts, second-hand books, vintage clothes, fresh produce, and food stalls. A great place to pick up a locally made keepsake – or a snack to tide you over between cellar doors.

Catalina Bay Farmers’ Market at Hobsonville Point

Open every Saturday and Sunday from 8:30am to 2pm, the Catalina Bay Farmer’s Market features an intriguing array of stalls, including fresh local produce, artisan breads, meats, cheeses, organic goods, coffee, honey, and flowers.

The undercover setting ensures a comfortable visit regardless of the weather, while live music adds to the buzzing atmosphere. Ample parking is available, and the market's location makes it an ideal stop for those exploring the Hobsonville Point Coastal Walkway or arriving via ferry from the city.

Vegan Night Market at Garage Project

Garage Project, known for its innovative craft beers, hosts Vegan Night Markets at its Kingsland location on the last Thursday of each month. These events feature a selection of vegan food vendors, offering plant-based dishes that pair well with Garage Project's unique brews, as well as businesses with vegan-friendly accessories and fashion.

Smales Farm Market

Held on every second Sunday of the month, Smales Farm Market brings together artisan food, family-friendly fun, and local crafts. There’s usually live music and a real community buzz – it’s one of the North Shore’s most wholesome weekend activities with great coffee, good food, and a nice mix of things to browse.

Kumeu Market

On the city’s rural fringe, Kumeu Market is a blend of fresh produce, local food stalls, homewares, crafts, plants, and live music – all set in a country showground atmosphere. Held monthly (on the third Sunday), it’s a fun excuse to head west and discover what the locals are growing, making, and baking.

Howick Village Market

In the heart of East Auckland, Howick’s Saturday Market is full of small-town charm. Think fresh flowers, smoked fish, cheeses, artisan bread, and homemade fudge. The village setting makes it a lovely place to potter for a morning – with nearby cafés to top up your caffeine reserves. Pair your visit with a wander around the Howick Historical Village while you’re in town.

Oratia Farmers Market

Held on Saturdays in West Auckland, the Oratia Farmers Market is a smaller, seasonal market held in the peaceful surrounds of Hoani Waititi Marae. You’ll find fresh produce, artisan bread, flowers, preserves, and small-batch goodies – all proudly local.

Central Flea Market

For lovers of vintage and thrifted treasures, the Central Flea Market is the place to rummage. Held in Balmoral, this is where you’ll find retro fashion, records, second-hand books, upcycled homewares, and plenty of other gems. It’s a perfect Sunday morning activity for anyone who loves the thrill of the thrift.
