Te Ārai Links, a scenic 90-minute drive from the city, tends to top of the golfing bucket list. The little coastal community of Te Ārai has been put on the global spotlight with the opening of Te Ārai Links in 2022. Its founder, Ric Kayne, is also behind the world-acclaimed Mangawhai golf club, Tara Iti.
This northern golfing destination is surrounded by pine forest and dunes with jaw-dropping Pacific views. What makes it special? Incredible scenery aside, Te Ārai Links boasts three restaurants, five-star accommodation and one of the world’s largest putting greens (2 acres). Between the North and South Courses, there will be 36 holes in all, with the North Course expected to open in October 2023.
Being set on undulating sand dunes, the majority of holes offer postcard-perfect views of the Pacific Ocean. Get some practice swings in at the driving range, which features six greens modelled after classic course architecture.
