Westgate, the western frontier of retail therapy, is the last major commercial hub before the motorway cuts into the quiet countryside near Kumeū. Westgate Shopping Centre originally launched the retail scene but today the Westgate precinct is far bigger than its namesake outdoor mall. In 2015, the sparkly indoor NorthWest Shopping Centre expanded Westgate’s retail repertoire with another 110 stores.
If there’s one thing that draws people to the northwest corner of Auckland, it’s the sportswear outlets. Grab a fab deal on sneakers or upgrade your fitness ‘fits over at Westgate Shopping Centre, home to outlets including Adidas, Converse, Asics, Timberland, New Balance, Under Armour, Skechers, Puma and ECCO Shoes. You can also pick up the essentials (and certainly some non-essentials) from the dozens of other stores like Chemist Warehouse, Look Sharp, Torpedo7 and The Warehouse.
Rain or shine are both good excuses for popping into NorthWest Shopping Centre, a contemporary mall with a great selection of department stores, trendy shops, shoe stores and jewellers – think Barkers, Farmers, Amazon Surf, Decjuba, and Walker & Hall. If it’s fine outside, stroll around the pedestrian-friendly town square or grab a bite to eat on Maki Street.
There’s no stopping this rapidly growing suburb, which draws a consistent crowd most weekends for its wide range of shops. Want to spruce up your home? At the industrial end of Westgate, browse the homeware retailers and mega-stores including Mitre 10, Freedom, Briscoes, Nood and the insanely popular wholesaler Costco.
Getting there Te huarahi ki reira
