What happens when two golf clubs sit side by side? Auckland Golf Club and the Grange, once separated by a creek, had co-existed as neighbours since the 1950s. In 2017, the clubs agreed to adjoin their properties and merge for the greater golfing good. Low and behold, the newly designed facilities at Papatoetoe now boast three distinct 9-holes: the Tāmaki, Middlemore and the Grange.
With some serious prestige in the golfing world, you’ll want to book your tee time well in advance. Play across and alongside the mangrove-filled estuary on the Tāmaki, which has two well-bunkered 3- pars and a good mix of challenging holes. Over on the Middlemore, weave through stately trees on a course with hills, backstops and some of the best holes on the property. The Grange, the shortest of the bunch, offers spectacular undulation and tree-lined holes.
