Hop on over from Aotea Square to enjoy the wide range of theatre, dance, multi-media arts, cabaret, comedy and music on offer at Q Theatre. When it comes to entertainment, this hip performance venue has no bounds. Here you can enjoy experimental and indie productions, well-known comedians and international festivals – they are more than happy to dazzle under one roof.
Don’t be fooled by its low-key exterior on Queen Street – the multi-theatre venue is larger than you might think. Catch a live comedy performance or a vivacious play at the Q’s main space, the Rangatira theatre, which holds up to 500 visitors. Over at its smaller studio theatre, the Loft, you’ll find a more intimate setting that puts experimental and small-scale shows in the limelight.
Grab some small plates or a craft beer at Q Theatre’s café and bar, Citizen Q. No need to rush off after the show – on Fridays and Saturdays, Citizen Q is open ‘til late. You can feel good indulging a little bit, too, with 100% of the profits supporting the stage.
Getting there Te huarahi ki reira
Q Theatre is a 2-minute walk from Aotea Square and a 16-minute walk from Britomart Train Station. Being on Queen Street, there are many buses that stop right outside the theatre. If driving, you’ll find the closest option at The Civic Car Park.
Local tip He tīwhiri mō te rohe
