MASU is famous chef Nic Watt's Japanese robata restaurant and bar in the heart of central Auckland's Federal dining precinct.
MASU combines the traditional robata cooking style over an open charcoal grill with atmosphere, passion, and a modern twist. You can expect tasty, skillfully composed, and superbly presented beef and lamb dishes.
Here, the food is prepared before your eyes on a robata grill. You can watch the cooks prepare food-loaded skewers and slowly rotate them over hot coals at the robata cooking hearth. They use fresh local ingredients, enhance each dish's natural flavours, and let the food speak for itself.
MASU serves dishes that have been designed for sharing; these are brought to your table continuously throughout your meal. If there is one dish that you must sample, it is the widely regarded lamb cutlets with gochujang pepper, cucumber, goma dressing, and chives—absolutely divine!
Combine this with a lively, informal atmosphere, and you have a beautifully bold and dramatically different style of Japanese dining.
