Starting your day at Little Shoal Bay in Northcote Point is a great way to enjoy the seaside and take in stunning views of the Auckland Harbour Bridge up close. If you plan on going for a swim, we recommend checking the water conditions on the Safeswim website before you go. Keep in mind that swimming is only permitted during high tide.
For dog owners, there is an off-leash exercise area in the reserve (just check the on-site signage), but please keep your furry friend on a leash when in Le Roys Bush and on the sports field.
When you're ready, cross Council Terrace and follow the signs to enter Le Roys Bush. You'll be surrounded by native birdlife and towering kauri, tōtara and nīkau palms, as well as a picturesque waterfall.
Follow the mix of gravel tracks and boardwalks (some narrow in areas) along the wetland, valley and stream. Keep an eye out for steps as you make your way through the bushwalk, which eventually emerges at 251 Hinemoa Street.
Across the street, you'll find the iconic Birkenhead Library and Civic Centre building, which offers fantastic views of the sea from its balcony.
