It's hard not to notice the majestic neo-Baroque building that watches over the lively Aotea Square precinct. With a gorgeous 1911 façade, Auckland Town Hall was fully restored in the 1990s and quietly boasts some of the finest acoustics in the world.
Sound good? Come nightfall, watch this heritage beauty spring to life as a favoured venue for cabaret, rock n’ roll, DJs, comedy festivals, globally renowned speakers and orchestras. Let live melodies wash over you in the aptly named Great Hall, a musical setting made magical with stained-glass windows and dazzling chandeliers.
For a more intimate setting, you can easily close your eyes and imagine you’re in the front row of the 431-seat Concert Chamber – popular for cabaret, chamber music and children’s theatre.
In the Great Hall look out for New Zealand’s largest concert organ, a musical and visual spectacle with more than 5000 pipes waiting to sing. Built in 1910, it’s considered a national treasure that is even protected by NZ law.
