Every Saturday in December between 11am and 3pm, you’ll find Queen Street humming with the colours, sights and sounds of street performances, costumed characters, live music and neon-lit trees.
Chance upon a festive storefront, holiday-themed displays, ice cream and doughnut giveaways, and circle past Smith & Caughey’s windows as hand-made puppets bring a new Christmas storybook to life - 'The Twelve Elves of Christmas’, written by Evie Day and illustrated by Liam Darcy. While you’re there, don’t miss Santa in his grotto.
A little further south, Auckland Live Christmas in Aotea Square will stage Christmas karaoke, live music, a Christmas film, games and an interactive augmented reality experience from Saturday 9 December. And on the third Saturday - 16 December - a special market day will fill midtown’s historic Strand Arcade with a taste of community, and heritage photography will walk you through time.
Christmas shopping has never been this much fun! Christmas on Queen Street is brought to you by Auckland Council and Heart of the City and is supported by the city centre targeted rate.
Getting there Te huarahi ki reira
Take a bus to Queen Street and get off at one of the bus stops located along the street. Catch a train and get off at the Britomart Station, which is located at the end of Queen Street or if you’re driving, park at The Civic car park and walk down Queen Street or park at Downtown Car Park and walk-up Queen Street. Either way Queen Street is a well-known street, so it should be easy to find.
